Blended and bottled in Mysuru. Complimentary 2 ml discovery set with every order.

Founded 2019 in Mysuru

TheMaison

One room, one perfumer, six fragrances and a batch size small enough to smell every one of them.

The atelier at night

We started because the good stuff was imported.

India grows sandalwood, vetiver and jasmine sambac, and for a long time the best of it was shipped out, blended in Grasse and sold back at four times the price. Vaylara started as an argument with that.

The first formula took two years. Not because the composition was difficult, but because we were learning which local suppliers were consistent from harvest to harvest, and which were not.

How a bottle gets made

Weighing

Materials are weighed to 0.01 g against a written formula. Nothing is dosed by eye, including the naturals.

One day

Maceration

The concentrate rests in steel, in the dark, between six and twelve weeks depending on how much resin is in the base.

Six to twelve weeks

Filtration and filling

Chilled, filtered twice, then filled and sealed by hand. The batch number on the box is the batch you have.

Two days

We would rather sell six fragrances badly explained than sixty nobody can tell apart. Devika Rao, co-founder

What we will not do

No limited editions that are the same juice in a different box. No "inspired by" formulas. No animal-derived materials — the castoreum and ambergris in the library are both synthetic, and the page says so.

When a material becomes restricted we reformulate and publish what changed, with the batch number where the change takes effect.
